Instagram's richest home influencers who are making millions from DIY makeovers

The curious world of home interiors has triggered a rise in so-called ‘home influencers’, with ordinary people making millions of pounds out of luxury homes following a lockdown DIY boom.

Marie Kondo and Mrs Hinch have been named the world's most successful, each earning over a million pounds a year from property makeovers that offer a glimpse into their secret lifestyles and home hacks.

America’s Marie Kondo topped the list of 50 so-called home influencers, with a turnover of £1.11million a year from her social media posts on Instagram and Youtube alone.

The tidying expert advises that you don’t need to keep things you don’t love.

Thanks to her 3.98million Instagram followers, she earns an estimated £17,000 per post while her YouTube account is estimated to earn her a tidy £1,400 per video.

Essex’s Sophie Hinchliffe, also known as clearning guru Mrs Hinch, is in second place, earning an estimated £1.04million a year.

A single post to Hinchliffe’s 3.99million followers will net her £17,200. On TikTok, the celebrity turns over £181.04 per 30-60 second clip.

In comparison, according to PayScale the average salary for an interior designer in the UK is £25,000.

Completing the top three is Studio McGee, made up of married couple Syd and Shea.

The hosts of Netflix ’s Dream Makeover are estimated to earn over £659,000 a year through social media alone, not considering their other earnings.

With 2.4million Instagram followers and an additional 283,000 YouTube subscribers, they can earn up to £10,600 per upload.

The report by GoCompare found reality stars are also making a killing out of their home renovations.

Love island’s Olivia and Alex Bowen come in first place, earning a massive £168,400 a year from their home account on Instagram.

With 640,000 Instagram followers, the couple earn an estimated £2,800 every time they share a home improvements post on @thebowenhome.

This is separate from Olivia Bowen’s personal profile, which boasts 2.5million followers, giving her the potential to earn £11,100 per post.

Images of her idyllic countryside lifestyle earn her around £2,600 per post.
