Instagram leak suggests the chronological feed could finally be making a return

It’s one of Instagram’s most requested features, and now a new leak suggests that the chronological feed could finally be making a return - well, almost.

Jane Manchun Wong, a reputable leaker based in Hong Kong, has revealed that Instagram is working on a new feature called ‘Latest Posts’.

She tweeted a screenshot of the feature, writing: “Instagram is working on ‘Latest Posts’ feed for catching up feed posts

“This sounds like the chronological feed people are asking for. Similar, but not the same.”

The feature appears to give users the opportunity to catch up on the latest photos when they first open the app, although the main feed itself will remain non-chronological.

Instagram caused huge controversy back in 2016 after changing its newsfeed from chronological order to a more tailored feed.

At the time, Instagram claimed that the change would improve user experience.

In a blog, it explained: “The order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post.”

While that was four years ago, many users are still urging Instagram to change the feed back to chronological order.

Speaking at the end of last year, Instagram insisted that the chronological feed will not be returning, but the new feature suggests a happy medium.

Posting on its Instagram Creator account, Instagram explained: “Since switching to a ranked feed, the average post is now seen by 50% more followers than it did with the chronological model.”

It remains unclear when, or if, Instagram plans to roll to the Latest Posts feature.
