Instagram launches three new Boomerang effects - here's how to try them out

Since Instagram launched Stories back in 2016, it’s become one of the social media app’s most popular features.

Users of Stories can add a range of effects and features to their photos and videos, including hilarious filters, polls and Boomerangs.

Now, Instagram has launched three new Boomerang effects, called SloMo, Echo and Duo.

Instagram tweeted about the update, writing: “Boomerang has new creative twists that'll make you say yaaassssss. Try them all out today.”

As the name suggests, SloMo leads to half-speed playback, while Echo creates a motion blur trail effect.

Meanwhile, Duo creates a glitch-like effect halfway through your Boomerang.

Here’s how to try out the new Boomerang effects yourself:

1. Open the Instagram app, and tap the camera icon in the top left corner to start a new Story

2. Swipe along the bottom carousel to Boomerang

3. Record your Boomerang

4. Once you’re happy with your video, tap the new Boomerang icon at the top of the screen, next to the Sticker icon

5. There, you’ll be given the option of Classic, SloMo, Echo or Duo

6. You can also crop your Boomerang by trimming the video at the bottom of the screen

7. Once you're happy with your Boomerang, tap Done in the top right corner

8. You can then share your creation by tapping the 'Send to' button in the bottom right corner, and selecting friends to share it with
