Instagram issues two huge updates to impact every user immediately

Instagram has been shaking up the platform with the introduction of two major features.

The photo sharing app has refreshed Instagram Stories, the section of the app where users can post pictures and videos that automatically delete after 24 hours.

Instagram has launched a brand new feature in Instagram stories with the 'Add Yours' sticker, following a major update last week.

It allows users to essentially create public threads in Instagram stories.

The interactive sticker creates a content chain. For example, one person can post an 'Add Yours' sticker sharing their outfit of the day, also known as #OOTD, and their followers can add on pictures of their own outfits.

Instagram said: "With custom prompts and public responses, you can share the sticker and see who responds to it in their own Stories."

The new feature follows an announcement last week that Instagram expanded a feature that had always been limited to users with verified accounts or those with a large following.

Now everybody on Instagram will be able to post links on Instagram Stories with the 'link sticker'.

Instagram removed the 'swipe up' feature limited to users with 10,000 followers minimum to put links in their stories.

The company said the move would allow "equity, expression and enablement" to users from activists and people just sharing with friends and family.

Instagram explained the huge change in a tweet: "Whether it’s sharing info on social justice or supporting a local biz, everyone should be able to share what matters to them."

In an announcement on their website, Instagram wrote: "Over the years, businesses, creators and change-makers have shown how sharing resources and information can inspire their communities.

"From organizing and educating around equity, social justice and mental well-being to showcasing new product drops to customers, link sharing is helpful in many ways — so now we're giving access to everyone."

How to use the 'Add Yours' Instagram sticker

  1. Make an Instagram story and when it is ready.
  2. Open the navigation menu by swiping up or selecting the sticker icon in the upper right hand corner with a happy face.
  3. Tap on the 'Add Yours' sticker.
  4. Users can also respond to someone else's 'Add Yours sticker' by tapping on it and adding their own story to the chain.
  5. If you don't see the option, try updating Instagram or restarting the app.
