Instagram apologises for accidental update that caused outrage among users

Instagram has apologised amid outcry at an update that was accidentally rolled out to all users of its app.

The update meant that users were unable to scroll vertically and instead had to scroll horizontally.

The app invited users to tap through posts, “just like you tap through stories.”

Thousands of users took to Twitter to complain about the update.

One user wrote: “Has Instagram lost its mind? I am not tinder swiping through everyone’s posts.”

Following the update, Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram apologised on Twitter: “Sorry about that, this was supposed to be a very small test but we went broader than we anticipated.”

“It should already be rolled back. If you’re seeing it you can simply restart your app and you should be good to go.”

The update was removed within an hour.
