Instagram adds new feature for people to add to their profile bio

People mentioning their preferred pronouns on social media profiles is nothing new, but Instagram has now made a change where you don't have to use up precious bio characters in order to do so.

Users will now be presented with a 'pronouns' section when editing their profile.

Instagram announced the new feature on Twitter, saying it is only available in a few countries just now, but will be available in more soon.

It appears to work in the UK when using the most recent version of the iOS app.

The feature does not allow users to type in whatever they want - there is a featured list of pronouns.

Some people have taken to Twitter to ask Instagram for more options.

@margaretmadole said: "This should just be a box for us to type in. Having us pick from a predetermined list excludes people who use less common neopronouns, it/its people, people who use all or no pronouns, people who want to list their pronouns in multiple languages, and anyone who wants to show"

Whatever you choose will appear next to your name a slightly darker type.

You can also choose to show this information to only those who follow you, in case a person’s gender isn’t something they want to share publicly.
