Aug. 05--Grocery delivery service Instacart is adding Pete's Fresh Market to its list of partner stores.
As with other grocery delivery services, customers set their list online -- bananas are the top seller in Chicago -- and Instacart staff do the shopping and delivery.
Beginning Wednesday, groceries from Pete's Fresh Market can be delivered to customers in Chicago and the suburbs including Oakbrook Terrace, Clarendon Hills, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Villa Park and Westmont.
In Chicago, Instacart also partners with Mariano's, Jewel-Osco, Whole Foods Market, Tony's Finer Foods, Plum Market, Open Produce, Stanley's Fruits and Vegetables, and Costco for grocery delivery.
"Pete's Fresh Market is a beloved family-owned business in Chicago. It's an institution there," said Andrea Saul, Instacart's vice president of communications. "We wanted to give our Chicago customers access to a local favorite," Saul said.
The grocery store started in the 1970s as a produce stand on Chicago's South Side and has expanded to seven city locations, mainly on the Southwest Side, and four suburban stores in Calumet City, Evergreen Park, Oakbrook Terrace and Bridgeview. A new store in Oak Park is set to open in September.
Instacart, which has operated in the Chicago area for two years, will be hiring with the addition of Pete's, Saul said. Online prices are the same as those in stores, Saul said.
Delivery fees start at $3.99 for orders over $35 and $7.99 for orders under $35. The cost is higher for deliveries within an hour. Customers can get free delivery on orders of $35 or more if they buy $99 annual memberships. New customers get their first order of $10 or more delivered for free. A minimum order of $10 is required for delivery.
