Inspired by Jason Witten, DeMarcus Ware hints at coming out of retirement

After the Dallas Cowboys announced Thursday that tight end Jason Witten is coming out of retirement to play again in 2019, former NFL edge defender DeMarcus Ware hinted on Twitter that he might come out of retirement as well.

“Hey, I want to let everyone know that I’ve been inspired when I heard that Jason Witten might be coming out of retirement,” Ware said in a video posted on his Twitter page. “And I started thinking to myself . . . maybe I need to call [Tony] Romo and get him out of the booth and all three of us come back.

“But then, Von Miller started hitting me up and then also DeMarcus Lawrence saying they wanted another guy on the edge [and asking] will I come back? I have been working out . . . and I do feel good. Do you all think I should come back?”

It doesn’t seem to be a very serious video from Ware — he’s probably just teasing his Twitter followers.

Two years ago, Ware said several NFL teams tried to convince him to come out of retirement during the 2017 season. Ware turned those teams down and he reiterated last summer that “those days are done,” speaking of his on-field career.

After spending the first nine years of his career with the Cowboys, Ware signed with the Denver Broncos in 2014 and was a key member of the team’s Super Bowl-winning squad in 2015. He retired following the 2016 season after recording 138.5 sacks during his 12-year career.

Ware, 36, served as a part-time pass rusher coach with the Broncos last season. It’s unclear if he will have a role with the team in 2019.
