Inspirational West Lothian schoolboy raises over £3000 with 26 mile cycle

An amazing West Lothian schoolboy who has cerebral palsy has raised over £3000 for his school by covering 26 miles on his adapted tricycle.

Over three weekends, Andrew Miller – supported by pal Amelia Wilson and his friends and family – cycled 26.2miles to raise the cash for Parkhead Primary School in West Calder.

Andrew and his identical twin Ross were both diagnosed with cerebral palsy shortly after birth and Andrew used his adapted tricycle to complete the challenge, which started on Cramond boardwalk in Edinburgh, with Andrew leading the cyclists for the first five-mile stage.

The following day the team cycled another six miles from Bathgate to Armadale and the next weekend they went over the Forth Road Bridge – clocking up a total of 15 miles.

The challenge was completed at the weekend when they returned to Cramond on the Saturday and back to Bathgate on the Sunday.

Andrew’s cycle challenge has raised over £3000 so far and is still to be added to the £700 raised by Bootycamp gym who ran a Saturday morning Bootcamp with raffle and cake sale.

Proud mum Kerrie said: “Andrew wants to raise as much as possible by way of thanks for their inclusive approach to his education and for helping him push his boundaries with mainstream learning and support.

“Andrew started mainstream school in primary three, initially attending for a half day on a Friday increasing this to full time.

“Andrew moves to secondary education at West Calder High

School from August this year, an accomplishment only made possible by
the great teachers, support staff and students from Parkhead.

“Andrew will be presented with the Inspire Award for 2021 from Parkhead Primary for the funds raised from the cycle challenge.”

Parkhead head teacher, Vicky Fish, heaped paise on Andrew. She said: “He is one of the most positive and inspirational boys I have ever met.

“I ran with him on one of his legs a couple of weeks ago and will run with him again over the next few weeks. We are all incredibly proud of him.”
