After reading lots of fantastic stories in the West Lothian Courier about some wonderful Local Heroes in the community, mum Elaine Beattie decided to put pen to paper and nominate her special daughter Ellie.
Ellie, now 13 years old, began to feel poorly when she was aged seven and after many consultations and examinations was diagnosed with brain tumour metastatic pineoblastoma and leptomingeal in 2018.
When she’s having good days, mum Elaine treats Ellie, who is an avid reader of books, especially Harry Potter, to a visit to The Centre to buy a new book or an art set as she also likes to spend time drawing and painting.
Elaine, who stays in Livingston, said: “Ellie will always be my very special hero, which is why after reading lots of wonderful Local Hero stories in the West Lothian Courier I decided to put her name forward in recognition of her courage and strength throughout her treatment.
“I didn’t think for a minute she would be chosen and invited to the mall to collect her Local Hero Award and a gift voucher to treat herself.
“It’s just the lift she needs right now after everything she’s been through – we are all over the moon for her.”
Patrick Robbertze, Centre Director at The Centre, Livingston, said: “We are absolutely delighted to announce Ellie Beattie as our very special and courageous Local Hero this month.
“She really deserves it and hopefully will treat herself to some new books and art supplies.”
