Inspirational Coatbridge woman receives weekly Advertiser bouquet

Birthday girl Morag Russell is this week’s deserving and much-loved recipient of our popular weekly bouquet.

The “inspirational” Coatbridge lady, who was nominated to receive the blooms by her daughter-in-law Lesley, is celebrating her 92nd birthday today.

She is described as “very much still the centre and backbone of the family and a fantastic sister, sister-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, and a special gran”.

Morag received an early birthday present when she was surprised with the beautiful Say It With Flowers bouquet, provided by generous weekly sponsor Mr Michael’s Florist, of Main Street in Coatbridge.

Lesley told the Advertiser: “Morag is just a really inspirational woman to all her family, including her eight grandchildren.

“She texts them all often and spends lots of time with them, wanting to know everything about how they are and how she can help them; she just wants the best for all her family.

“Morag is always there for us to offer love, care, guidance, advice and support – she’s so generous and always has kind words for everybody.

“She’s so generous; if she has the opportunity to write something to one of her grandchildren or a family member in a card, she always will and will always write something to spur you on, pick you up or make it all right.”

Birthday girl Morag – whose real name is Sarah – previously worked at former Airdrie department store Orrs and as an auxiliary at Monklands Hospital, as well as with a training programme helping young people into employment.

Lesley added: “She has so many life experiences which she’s shared with us– she’s been in a hot air balloon, she’s been in a submarine!

“In quite recent years, she did a ‘silver surfer’ computer course at Be Cogent; and she only gave up driving two or three years ago.

“She was a country dancer; and was also in Monklands Rambers for many years and would often be away climbing hills in different places.”

Much-loved Morag has three sons, Bobby, Gordon and Andy.

Lesley, who is married to Gordon, added: “She’s been my mother-in-law for nearly 39 years and personally is a very special friend to me.

“I can chat to her about absolutely everything, or just sit there and help her with the crossword.

“We love her and care loads – she’s so special and we thought she deserves the bouquet of the week!”

You can nominate a loved one for the floral surprise by sending in their story of why they deserve the special treat.

One recipient will feature each week with the presentation being captured on camera.

We want to hear from you about any special someone who deserves a special treat to say thank you and to show that they are greatly appreciated for all they do.

Simply send in your name, daytime phone number, address, the name of the person you wish to nominate and details about why they deserve to be one of the next recipients of a gorgeous bouquet.

Details can be emailed to news@airdrieandcoatbridgeadvertiser.co.uk or posted to Say It With Flowers competition, Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser, One Central Quay, Glasgow, G3 8DA.
