Inspirational 84-year-old Dubliner receives award for 36 years participating and supporting the Women's Mini Marathon

An 84-year-old Dublin woman received an achievement award for 36 years of participating and supporting the VHI Women's Mini Marathon.

Betty Hand, from Blanchardstown, was given the certificate by organisers before she embarked on her 37th mini marathon on Sunday.

The Dubliner suffered a stroke in 2016 followed by a second in May of this year leaving her in Cappagh Hospital, Finglas, to rest.

Her participation in this years event was in doubt, but, the inspirational woman recovered before Sunday's race.

Betty's daughter, Martina, told Dublin Live: "She did it in memory of the victims of Stardust.

"She suffered a stroke in 2016, then another on on May 6th, 2019.

"She was then transferred from The Mater Hospital to Cappagh Hospital where she is doing well."

Betty returned to Cappagh Hospital after the race where she is now resting.
