Inspectors 'disappointed' as Notts kebab house hit with 1 star food hygiene rating

A Nottinghamshire kebab house has been handed a one-star rating for poor food hygiene.

Shahi Kebabs in King Street, Southwell, was given the rating after food hygiene officers from Newark and Sherwood District Council inspected the premises in February 2021.

The food hygiene report stated that the takeaway stored "food with no labels in dirty plastic containers above 8C".

A "large amount of unfit food" was also found on the premises, which was disposed of during the inspection.

It also revealed that meat was "prepared on draining sink side" which should be prepared "on a separate table" instead.

Inspectors told the owners of the takeaway: "You are not to prepare raw meat on the draining sink, given the contamination risks this poses. The red, yellow and brown boards were mouldy and need replacing.

"Very disappointed to see such poor standard within the upstairs kitchen".

Owners were told to get a commercial use hand sanitiser by the following day after the inspection.

Shahi Kebabs did not wish to comment.
