Network insiders have finally spilled what really went down behind the scenes of The Golden Bachelor following that bonkers finale, including the tea about Barry “Bear” Myrden‘s casting and plans for season two.
Let’s dive in, shall we?
The contestants had no idea who the leading man was
In a twist that will probably shock no one familiar with reality TV casting, the women were chosen first and Bear was essentially dropped in afterwards — so the gals had no clue whose heart they’d be vying for when they signed on.
According to production sources, the women were chosen first, long before the show actually had a Golden Bachelor locked in, meaning they had the mansion full of contestants and were awaiting a leading lad.
“They were scrambling right up until the 11th hour,” one insider claimed.
Another man almost took Barry “Bear” Myrden’s place on The Golden Bachelor
Producers actually had two potential Golden Bachelors waiting in the wings and it was reportedly Samantha Armytage who had the final say on which man would front the franchise.

While one candidate apparently had the personality, charisma and the natural chemistry that matched the already-cast women, the other had a more marketable backstory. And with time running out, marketable won.
“It was the story they felt audiences would connect with immediately,” the insider claimed. And honestly? They’re probably right. Grief, resilience and a second chance at love hits the exact sentimental notes the franchise thrives on.
Whether or not that story fully reflected his real-life dating situation before filming… is another matter.
Some production staff have quietly admitted the other shortlisted Golden Bachelor might’ve actually been a better fit for the women who had already signed on.

The Golden Bachelor Season 2 will be different
Whispers have already kicked off about what The Golden Bachelor season two will look like and apparently we’re in for some changes.
“Next season will look very different,” the insider added. “They have a Golden Bachelor and they have him in mind for all of the women.
“Then they’ll cast the women around him. So there’s more natural chemistry and it feels more believable.”
The network apparently doesn’t want another “race to the finish line” situation like this season, which insiders describe as fast, frantic and full of last-minute decisions.
You’ll also be pleased to know that Samantha Armytage will be back for season two but with an even bigger salary, according to her leaked contract.
In last night’s episode, Bear chose his winner after a gripping race to the finish line.
