There’s no doubt that Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet‘s romance dominated the headlines when it came to awards season. So, when the Met Gala rolled around, it was quite the surprise that the dynamic duo didn’t attend together.
Well, insiders have now claimed that the couple ditched the fashion fundraiser due to the “Met Gala curse”.
What is the Met Gala curse?
While the Met Gala seems like an absolute hoot for those who froth fashion and fame, it’s quite the opposite for celebrity couples.
You see, there’s a sneaky superstition that couples who attend the Met Gala together eventually break up.
To avoid the heartbreaking jinx, an insider source claimed Kylie and Timothée “intentionally avoided” attending the Met Gala together.
“Kylie and Timothée intentionally avoided attending the Met Gala together these past few years because they didn’t want to risk the whole ‘Met Gala curse’ thing,” the insider told Page Six.
“Kylie was especially superstitious about it after going to the Met with Travis [Scott] in 2018 and 2019 before they eventually split.”
Is the Met Gala curse real?
Similar to the infamous Kardashian Curse— the belief that anyone who dates a Kar-Jenner eventually sees their career nosedive, whether in entertainment or sport — the Met Gala Curse is a myth. However, there is a list of couples who have broken up after attending the fashion bonanza.
Alongside Kylie and Travis, Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson broke up months after making their Met Gala debut in 2022. In 2015, Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs attended the Met Gala, but ended their engagement in 2017.
However, one of the most notable breakups that aligns with the Met Gala curse was that of Phoebe Bridgers and Paul Mescal, who attended the fundraiser together in 2022.
While it’s not exactly clear why or when they broke up, Phoebe and Paul’s moment on the Met Gala’s steps has been marred by this memeable moment.
While the curse has never been scientifically proven, as a spiritual girly, I wouldn’t risk it if I were Kylie or anyone else. Especially with today’s dating pool!
