Just days after we were sent into a Blue Origin orbit over pictures of their intimate dinner, an insider has spilled the tea on what the actual fuck is going on between Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau.
ICYMI, the pop star and the former Canadian Prime Minister — I repeat, the FORMER CANADIAN PRIME MINISTER — were snapped having a shared meal in Montreal this week, following their respective splits from Orlando Bloom and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau.
Rumours of a romance between the unlikely pair were only further fuelled overnight, when Trudeau was spotted alongside his daughter, Ella-Grace, in the crowd of Perry’s Montreal concert.
Naturally, since it’s a pairing about as bizarre as Krsipy Kreme’s prank sriracha flavour, the internet lost its collective mind — to a point that almost rivalled that of Perry’s infamous space flight.
Now, however, a source has come forward to put a halt to all those feverishly drafting fanfics for the would-be couple.
“As of right now, Katy and Justin are treating their get together as just that, a get together,” a source told The Daily Mail, adding that Perry’s friends would’ve been across any romantic developments if there were any to report.
“She hasn’t told anyone it was anything more, and she usually wears her heart on her sleeve, so if something were happening, she’d let her close friends know,” the insider said.
“But right now it is nothing more than friendship.”
Even a friendship between the pair is a head-scratcher, since I can’t imagine what their conversations would entail. The Canadian political climate? Cupcake bras? Or some extremely niche topic somewhere in between?
The source went on to claim that Perry is not yet ready for any relationship, let alone one with a PM, given the freshness of her split from Bloom late last month.
“She isn’t ready to start dating anyone right now, she has to continue to focus on healing from separating from Orlando,” they claimed, with a second insider reiterating that Perry “became single five minutes ago” and is “not going to fall in love with someone new so quickly.”
In saying that, the singer reportedly hasn’t completely shut the door to a Trudeau romance, with sources saying Fireworks (sorry) could very well be in their future.
“Could that change? Obviously, but the ball is in Katy’s court right now. No relationship so far,” they said, with the other agreeing that “it could develop, of course, but it’s not anything more than two single people who had dinner together and like to talk.”
So there you have it folks, we’re officially on a timeline where sources are forced to clarify what’s going on between a pop star-turned astronaut and the literal former Prime Minister of LITERAL CANADA.
Who’d have thought that 11-minute space flight wouldn’t be the strangest headline circling Perry this year?
