The internet was sent into a tizzy earlier this week when clips of the musician couple interacting at the fashion event seemed to point to trouble in paradise.
In one video, Rihanna was seen having a tense interaction with Rocky in the back of a sprinter van after departing the Met Gala, while another showed her giving what seemed like a stern look to him as he chatted to musician Tyla near the red carpet.
In the fallout, internet sleuths — likely still reeling from another infamous Met Gala quarrel — theorised what was going on between Rihanna and Rocky at the glitzy event, but an insider has now come forward to quell any concerns with a (frankly mundane) explanation.
“It was a long day and they were running on empty,” a source claimed to TMZ. “They’re happy, and people are simply overanalysing a tired moment.”
The outlet reported that the couple had been up for 16 hours by the time they were captured in the viral clips and that they were “totally drained” from the events of the day, which understandably led to some frosty interactions.
Add in three children back home, a bunch of flashing camera lights and an uncomfortable outfit, and you’ve got the perfect recipe to get on each other’s last nerve.
The source wasn’t the only person weighing in on the situation, with Tyla sharing a TikTok clip revealing that she “met [Rihanna] last night and she was cool”.
“I met her, but I think she was occupied because I went up to her and she was like, ‘My baby daddy’s calling me’, and then she left. I felt awkward… I don’t know how to say hi if I feel like someone’s busy,” Tyla said in the video.
The situation was just one bit of tea we got from this year’s Met Gala, with the various after parties serving us reports about Venus Williams dancing all night, Olivia Rodrigo taking shots at the bar, and an ex reunion between Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom.
Rihanna and Rocky join Beyoncé and Jay-Z in seemingly being at their wits end at the Met, with that musician couple notoriously embroiled in an elevator argument with Solange Knowles at the fashion event back in 2014.
Granted, that interaction — reportedly sparked by Jay-Z’s alleged infidelity — seemed far more serious than just being snippy in the back of a sprinter, but maybe they were all just well and truly over climbing those Met Museum steps.
