Kristen Bell is still in the midst of controversy following her anniversary tribute post to Dax Shepard, and like clockwork, a source has now spilled the tea on their 12-year marriage.
ICYMI, Bell is under fire for sharing an Instagram post earlier this week in which she seemingly joked about domestic violence while recalling a previous sentiment shared by her husband.
“Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivised to kill you, I never would’,” Bell wrote, alongside an image of the pair hugging.
In the fallout, Bell dropped out of a scheduled TV interview and advocacy groups issued searing responses, but a bunch of other updates have now arrived in the form of an insider, who has revealed how the pair have reacted to the backlash.
“The post was funny to her and Dax, but she didn’t realise the backlash that was coming,” the source claimed to the Daily Mail. “It was tone deaf, but at the end of the day, the people that know Kristen know that is the person she is.”
As for why Bell felt compelled to share the post in the first place, the insider reckons she’s always had a pretty dark sense of humour.
“Her humour can go dark and sometimes be funny. But then she is also oblivious to people’s feelings and will say anything at any time,” they said.
Digging even deeper, the source dished on Bell and Shepard’s relationship, including their sometimes tumultuous home life.
“Kristen and Dax are both pretty volatile people and can blow up over the smallest issues,” they said, claiming that the pair can go for days without speaking while shielding their quarrels from their children, Lincoln and Delta.
“They keep their kids in the dark about their arguments,” the insider said.
Of course, insiders’ claims should be taken with a grain of salt (or actually, enough to rim a marg), but we do know for sure that Bell reacted to the backlash by limiting the comments on her IG post.
Elsewhere, a resurfaced interview in which Shepard joked about physically hitting Bell began doing the rounds on social media earlier this week, all while Bell is busy promoting the second season of her Netflix show, Nobody Wants This.
Shepard and Bell tied the knot in 2013, the same year they welcomed Lincoln. Delta was born in 2014.
