The area around Place St Géry and Place Fontainas are hip bits of the city. It's all about bar Fontaines (91 Rue du Marché au Charbon), which I love – you can have a drink on the pavement in the evening with a really nice mix of people and it's where everyone goes. For the best cafe latte in Brussels, it's Café Mocca.

We really like Bar Popular (7-10 Fismarkt) because it has cool music – it's a Latin bar – and lots of cocktails. De Stille Genieterr (9 Neuwstraat) is a bit quieter and is a good place to meet friends.
Nadia Karera, Brussels
My friends and I always hang out at bar Sphinx Disco Bar (20 Rue Marché au Fromages). It's a really chilled place where you don't have to dress up, and you can have a cocktail and a bit of a dance to some cool R&B.

For great music, I go to Muziekanten- huis (50 Dampoortstraat), near the station. It's where musicians go to jam, read poems and talk.

If we're hanging out having a drink, or dancing, we like to go to the Oude Markt, which is full of bars like De Giraf (37 Oude Markt) or Eclips (50 Oude Markt). Everyone there is young and cool.

My favourite bar is called Stereo Sushi. It's a sushi bar (6 Luikstraat) that changes to a club late at night and it's not too big.
Katrien TimmeRman, Ostend
Lafayette is the best bar in Ostend. I go for the music. The cocktails are good too and the atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly. I've had some great nights there.
Stijn Verbruggen, Leuven
Café Allee (41 Oude Markt) is an alternative rock kind of bar that has a slightly older crowd of musicians and artists – it's where I go anyway!
Sara Sellies, Mechelen
If you want somewhere really trendy, go to Mille (Vismarkt). It's a bar on weeknights and on Saturdays a club where they play loads of good electro music.
