Inside world's biggest garden gnome collection as Brit woman piles up 2,500

There’s a new home for the world’s biggest collection of gnomes.

The assortment of 2,500 tiny bearded blokes has been sold by Guinness World Record holder Ann Atkin.

Ann, who is in her 80s and founded a gnome sanctuary in West Putford, Devon, in 1979, admitted she could no longer look after her garden chums, which are worth £100k.

It took 30 trips over nearly six months to move them to their new home at Merry Harriers Garden Centre in nearby Bideford.

About a third of the collection is now on display.

Worker Edward Serna, 42, said: “We have a nice mill pond and we created a walk around our Chinese garden that features the gnomes so it’s a nice trip out for the kids.

“My wife has started an Instagram account for the gnomes and we’ve had people get in touch who want to donate their old gnomes.

“We’ve had locals volunteer to paint them as 2,500 gnomes take a lot of upkeep.”

After all, a garden centre is a great place for gnome improvement.
