Inside 'USA's scariest hotel' next door to a graveyard - with very creepy theme

A fearless UK explorer has gone viral after documenting his terrifying overnight stay in "America's Scariest Motel" that is entirely dedicated to clowns.

Stuart Moore found the motel, located in the tiny town of Tonopah, Nevada, USA, whilst road tripping in the desert.

The 42-year-old, who is originally from Coalville, Leicestershire, said he didn't manage to get any sleep in the establishment which is located directly next door to an old cemetery dating back to 1901.

After sharing his experience online, the online salesmen was shocked to see his post go viral - racking up over 218,000 shares and 68,000 comments in a matter of days.

Stuart, who moved to Florida from the UK 15 years ago, said: "I had never heard of this clown motel before I literally stumbled across it.

"My friends and I were travelling from Las Vegas to Lake Tahoe for a snow trip. It was getting dark so I began looking for accommodation.

"I was looking on google maps during the drive, and I came across a motel called the 'world famous clown motel'.

"I was really intrigued. The town itself was amazing, it felt like an old gold-mining town and going there was like a step back in time."

He said the Clown Motel had thousands of clowns everywhere, and every door to the motel rooms had a different clown on it.

He and his friends stayed in a the exorcist clown room.

He said: "Luckily I am not too freaked out by clowns, but if you have a real fear of them it might have been challenging.

"People I've spoken to say the motel is really haunted.

"It was the type of place you would expect the television just to turn on by itself. Right next to my bed was a huge painting of an exorcist clown.

"There are heaps of little toy clowns hanging around in the rooms. It was definitely an experience that I'll remember."

They said: "The 31-room motel started in the mid-80s when Leona and Leroy David built it in memory of their father who is buried at the Old Tonopah Cemetery right next door.

"Their father who was a clown lover left a collection of 150 clowns in his home which they decided to use as the theme and focal point of their motel in his memory.

"The Clown Motel has been known to have unexplainable things happen from time to time.

"Many people have had paranormal encounters at The Clown Motel earning it the name 'America's Scariest Motel'."
