Inside the transformation of a Belmont North home with quite the view

Untapped potential was what immediately struck Emma Deger and Simon Burgoyne when they walked into their Belmont North property six years ago.

The 1980s-built brick home enjoyed an elevated position with panoramic ocean views and provided a blank canvas for a stunning transformation.

"It reminded me of growing up on the Northern Beaches and looking out to Shelly Beach," Emma said. "That strip around to Blacksmiths and the view we get there was reminiscent to home for me, and we knew that we could make something beautiful from that.

"It was just a sitting duck for potential. We could see the potential in its unrenovated beauty, so we just capitalised on the good bones of the home. It was easy to work with."

The outlook was a major focus when the couple set about planning a renovation of 68 Harrison Street, working with Jason Topic Architect and Orton Building.

The design brief was Australian Coastal with a hint of Queenslander.

The renovation was completed in 2019 and the result a stunning and spacious five-bedroom, two-bathroom family sanctuary.

"It's just such a serene place to come home to," Emma said. "We feel like we're escaping from every day when we come back."

There is a white-on-white palette throughout. A clever use of large windows, louvres and a vaulted ceiling maximise natural light, the outlook and sea breezes. There are four bedrooms upstairs, including the master suite, a family room and open plan living, kitchen and dining extends seamlessly to a rear deck. Downstairs is a fifth bedroom or guest retreat.

The home is set on a 685 square metre block backing on to reserve and is located within close proximity to Redhead Beach and Fernleigh Track.

The home is being marketed by Tammy Hawkins, of McGrath Newcastle City, and is set for auction on February 13. It is open for inspection on Saturday from 10.30am until 11am and Tuesday between 6pm and 6.30pm. A price guide had not been established.
