Inside the tiny sandwich shop loved by locals for more than a decade

Tucked away on Hardman Street, there's a popular sandwich shop that has been serving the city for 11 years.

Dory's is a tiny city centre shop that has a big reputation and an even bigger menu.

Serving everything from a full English and breakfast bagels to salad boxes and an extensive range of sandwiches, customers can order from Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats, over the phone and in person.

We visited the shop to speak to the staff and to find out what makes it so special.

A sense of community

Dory's has proved popular in the area, with many students and workers popping in to choose a quick bite from the extensive menu.

Staff member Jadean Mosely, 22, told the ECHO : "Many of our customers work close by so they come in a lot and we get to know them.

"You can have banter with the customers."

Staff member Marta Marquez, 33, who has worked and Dory's for two years, said: "It's nice getting to know the customers - we see them everyday."

While third staff member Ellen Hudson, 28, who has worked at Dory's for four years, said: "Everyone who works round here is connected.

"One of our favourite customers is a hairdresser, 'Weavin Steven' who works on Rodney Street - we make his sandwiches and he does our hair.

"There's a community feel here, massively so - more than anywhere else I've ever worked."

"Everyone loves a sandwich"

There's a huge selection of sandwich fillings on offer, including meats, cheeses and fish.

Ellen said: "By 10am each morning, there's a queue out of the door - we get really busy.

"Thursday lunch time and Friday mornings are definitely our busiest times, the builders working in the area all seem to come and get their breakfast from us.

"Sometimes, we get a stag do or a hen party staying nearby who want their breakfast with us.

"It's always so busy that the time just goes by really quickly.

"We get all kinds of people in here, we get students, we get builders, we get office workers.

"Pretty much everyone is a regular so everyone knows everyone.

"I think we're so popular because there's so much choice and everyone loves a sandwich."

Jadean added: "There's so many options here, customers can choose exactly what they want.

"We do proper food and if you've got a hangover, you're going to want a proper breakfast, aren't you?"

"It's a working class, old fashioned sandwich shop."

The shop has been a firm favourite for more than a decade.

Staff said the reason the venue has stood the test of time could be its welcoming, laid-back atmosphere.

Ellen said: "I love that it's not pretentious in here - it's a working class, old fashioned sandwich shop."

When asked what their favourite thing about working at Dory's was, Ellen added: "Definitely when so many people recognise us when we go out in town.

"It makes us feel like celebrities."

You can visit Dory's at 2 Hardman Street, L1 9AX.
