Inside the tiny micro apartment with toilet in the bedroom - and it costs £400 a month

A tiny apartment with no kitchen and a toilet in the bedroom went on the market available to rent for £400 a month.

Measuring just 160 square foot, the property was listed for rent as a “micro apartment”.

The tiny dwelling in Vancouver, Canada, was posted on Craigslist which describes how it does at least have new flooring, a window and a single bed.

The apartment’s layout means the toilet and the bedroom are just a few short steps apart and in direct line of sight as there is no door.

The listing says the flat is “ideal for a single individual looking to live downtown at an affordable rate, and who does not need much space”, reports The Guardian.

And what is the price for such a small space? Around £397 (C$680) a month - less than the city’s average of £647 (C$1,107) -with hot water and electricity included and pets are not allowed.

This apartment will no come as a surprise to people familiar with Vancouver.

According to a 2020 survey by commercial real estate firm CBRE it is the seventh most expensive housing market in the world, coming ahead of Los Angeles, Paris and New York.

Another study this year by the Urban Reform Institute named Vancouver the second most unaffordable city of 100 major metropolises. It came behind Hong Kong and just ahead of Sydney.

With the pandemic Vancouver housing prices has risen by 20-25% in a year, the Vancouver Sun reports.

As for the micro studio, the listing was removed after a few days.

However, it was picked up by the website Vancouver is Awesome .

It states that the apartment’s size is smaller than the City of Vancouver’s 250-square-foot (23 sq metre) definition of a micro dwelling.

As well as this, the city’s guidelines also say that bathrooms should be “physically separated from the remainder of the unit by partitions and a door to ensure privacy and to isolate noise and odours”.
