Inside the Tenerife hotel on lockdown after confirmed coronavirus cases among guests

Footage has emerged of a Spanish hotel placed on lockdown after a number of guests were diagnosed with coronavirus.

Around 200 tourists from different countries are facing a holiday under quarantine at the H10 Costa Adeje Palace, a four-star hotel in the southwest of Tenerife.

So far four cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed at the island resort, which was placed into isolation on Tuesday.

Some 168 Britons in Tenerife are currently confined in the hotel and are unable to leave.

All holidaymakers and staff at the hotel can be seen wearing face masks both in the foyer and outside on the terrace, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

Hotel guests have been captured sunbathing on loungers by the pool as they try to make the most of their unusual circumstances.

Others are gathered around tables outside, while a mother can be seen carefully adjusting the masks on her two young children.

Security guards with radios are at the doors of the hotel, with no one allowed out of the complex for the duration of the two week isolation period.

Spanish media reports say that police are guarding the hotel and making sure no one enters or leaves the cordon.

Health authority spokeswoman Veronica Martin earlier said that guests were being monitored for "health reasons", adding that "the degree of supervision will be assessed during the day, but so far, we're not talking about quarantine".

A statement from the hotel said it has "implemented all health and operational recommendations from the health authorities to ensure the safety and wellbeing of customers and employees".

"Additionally, we are providing customers and hotel staff all the necessary care and attention so that, despite the inconveniences this situation may cause, they are taken care of in the best way possible."

A Foreign Office spokesman said its staff was offering advice and support to British people at the hotel.

Symptoms of coronavirus, officially known as Covid-19, include a cough, fever and shortness of breath.

Anyone who thinks they may have coronavirus (COVID-19), or who is suffering with symptoms associated with the virus, should not visit doctors surgeries or A&E departments. Instead, they are asked to stay indoors and avoid contact with other people and call NHS 111.
