Inside the rundown home bought for £9,500 as it's set to go on sale for £732,000

A rundown inner-city home snapped up for a bargain £9,500 could sell for £732,000 after going on sale for the first time since 1979.

The run-down 570sqm house in one of Queensland's most popular suburbs was first bought more than four decades ago.

Now, auctioneers could be quids in as the property is said to be worth more than $1.3 million Australian dollars, or about £732,000.

Staggeringly, when it was last sold in 1979 it had a price tag of just £9,500 ($17,000).

Bruce Wilson, at realestate.com, said of the house: "Properties like this don't come along every day.

"This quaint, circa 1920's cottage is in need of a full renovation and sits on a 570 sqm block which has two street access."

The house, which is said to be 'typical of its era' features two bedrooms, kitchen, dining room, lounge and two-way bathroom.

There is also a front bullnose veranda.

It also boasts a large area underneath the house which features a vast storage space.

A detached, double garage is also at the rear of the property.

Auctioneers said the house 'boasts many other original features' including stone fireplaces in the lounge and kitchen, pine floorboards, and high ceilings.

Other additions include the pot-bellied stove and the ornate plaster cornices and ceiling in the dining room.

It's location is described as the heart of the area of New Farm, surrounded by local amenities and near to the centre of the city.

Bruce added: "There's no mistaking that there is a lot of work to restore this home however the rewards will be reaped at the end.

"Or could the property be developed in some way (subject to Council approvals)? Do your homework and we will see you at the auction."

The auction will take place on March 20 at 12:30pm.
