Inside the new-look £15m Pentrehafod School in Swansea

This is the first look at the amazing £15.1 transformation of one of Swansea's biggest schools.

Pentrehafod School was officially opened by Swansea City Football Club  legend Leon Britton today.

As well as boasting a 3G all weather football pitch, the upgraded 1,000 pupils school now also has new art rooms and state-of-the-art ICT rooms.

And there's also a new library, upgrades to science labs and a brand new reception area.

There is a much improved front atrium and car park area, and for the first time, all the school buildings have been linked up - so pupils and teachers can now move around completely under cover and no longer have to run from building to building in bad weather.

The on-site sports facilities have been greatly enhanced, and they will also be available for community use too.

Head teacher Jennifer Ford said pupils and staff were delighted with their new surroundings.

She said: "The refurbishment has taken two years and it has been challenging, for students and staff.

"It’s like having major work done on your home but having to work around it. With 1,000 students this has been an interesting project.

"However, the results are worth it. We have a lovely new school, with wide corridors and excellent facilities. I would like to thank students and staff for their patience and understanding."

Also joining former Swans midfielder Britton at the opening, was his ex-teamate Lee Trundle - who is now an ambassador the Liberty Stadium side.

Council leader Rob Stewart said: “I was delighted to see how pupils and staff are now working in a state-of-the-art environment that is second to none.

“The council is determined that our young people are given every opportunity to reach their full potential and Pentrehafod is the latest in a long list of schools in Swansea to receive significant investment.

“More than £100m has been invested in our 21st Century Schools programme to date and I’m delighted that by working closely with our colleagues in the Welsh Government we have developed a programme that will see another £150m invested in school buildings and facilities in Swansea in the next few years.”

Officials said the project, headed by contractors Morgan Sindall, used local workers and suppliers as well as providing apprenticeship and work experience opportunities as well.
