Inside the most viewed property in Greater Manchester's 'cheapest borough'

Wigan is one of the cheapest places to live in the UK and with the property market moving again, plenty of people are trying to find a bargain.

In terms of council tax, home insurance and energy bills, the borough is the 10th cheapest in the entire country, according to research from Compare the Market.

There are also plenty of affordable homes in the borough, with some of these being viewed thousands of times on websites such as Rightmove and Zoopla.

However, if you would like to buy the most viewed house in Wigan on Rightmove last month, you'll need to have close to £1m hidden away.

Cunning Cottage

Cunning Cottage is on the outskirts of Wigan in Crank Road, Billinge. The beautiful four bedroom, detached stone-built home is priced up at £995,950.

The cottage, in the Orrel ward of the Wigan MBC area, also comes with three acres of landscaped gardens, a large double garage and two luxury designer bathrooms.

Despite costing just shy of £1m, the asking price has recently dropped by more than £200,000.

Estate Agents Regan and Hallworth said: "The house was completely re-built just 21 years ago and is ideal for anyone wanting to add their own style to what is already a truly lovely house."

Something slightly more affordable, but a great potential investment opportunity is in Springfield.

Frog Lane

11 bedroom detached house in Frog Lane, Springfield, Wigan (Zoopla/Breakey & Co)

This 11 bedroom detached house was once a pub called The Guardians Inn.

In the last 30 days, more than 1,000 people have viewed it on Zoopla, making it the site's most viewed property on sale in Wigan.

It is set over two floors with a reception room, kitchen, six bedrooms and a bathroom on the ground floor and a further five bedrooms and two bathrooms on the first floor.

Offers of more than £200,000 are being accepted and it is estimated that the building could generate monthly income of £3,700 if rooms were to be rented out.
