Inside the luxury glamping pods that 'disappear' when you're inside

If you're looking to go off the grid, then you may want to check out the new luxury pods that offer total glamping - but you might need to do a double take to find them.

That's because the Lindis Pods' exteriors are covered in mirrored panels and dark wooden frames, so that from afar they blend into the wilderness and are nearly invisible to passers by.

Step inside, close the doors and it's a bit like a disappearing act - only the pods stay very much where they are.

Basically, ideal for guests who want to feel like they've gone completely off the grid.

Tucked away in the breathtaking Ahuriri Valley in North Otago, New Zealand, the pods are the epitome of rustic chic  - with an emphasis on the chic.

Head inside the luxury 20-metre pods and you'll find a king-sized bed with heaps of plush bedding, elegant wooden interiors and an ensuite bathroom.

There are even tea and coffee making facilities for those who want to take in the views with a nice cuppa.

Speaking of views, you'll get 180-degree uninterrupted panoramics of the parks, mountains and beech forest, not to mention the starry night skies.

The pods have private decks and hot tubs (New Zealand In Depth)

Want to make the most of the great outdoors? The private deck and hot tubs make for a pretty tempting spot.

The pods also boast some impressive eco-friendly credentials such as geothermal heat pumps, rainwater harvesting systems and state of the art insulation.

Should you need anything else, the main lodge hotel, The Lindis, is a short walk away.

Sally Lilley, Director at New Zealand In Depth, said: "The mirrored finish takes the pod and all but makes it disappear as it reflects the surrounding skies, maintains, and tussocked hills, yet from the inside the one-way glass provides a spectacular view that makes the most of the lodges unique location.

"This is the perfect destination for couples looking for the ultimate privacy and escape."

Keen to check it out for yourself? Unfortunately, you're going to need quite the budget as prices start from $2,000 (NZD) per night - approximately £1,015.

The pods are also recommended as part of a 10-night luxury New Zealand adventure from £3,200 with New Zealand In Depth , which includes car hire, two nights at the Lindis Pods with dinner, and eight nights in luxury B&B and lodge accommodation. (International flights are not included).
