Inside the luxurious K Club mansion that sold for millions in incredibly quick time

One of the biggest mansions at the K Clubs grounds in Straffan, Co Kildare, sold for around €2.9 million after just three weeks on the market.

It was put up for sale for €2.75million in late September.

Number 3 Churchfields, a big 582sq m (6,246sq ft) five bed, was previously owned by top racehorse trainer Vincent O’Brien and wife Jacqueline.

It is believed that the mansion has sold for a figure close to €2.9million and the buyer is believed to be Irish and relocating within the area, the Irish Times reports.

Selling agent Roseanne De Vere Hunt, head of Sherry FitzGerald Country Homes didn't comment on the sale except to tell the Irish Mirror that contacts had closed recently after “competitive bidding and interest from Dubai, the US, the UK and Ireland”.

The quick sale is another example of the country houses having a post-lockdown boom.

De Vere Hunt added that a surprising group of the interested buyers were people also looking in south Dublin locations such as Killiney and Dalkey.

She added to the Irish Times: “It’s unheard of for a country home at that level to agree and close so quickly.

"It’s a very competitive market with underbidders biting at buyers’ heels and no messing around with post-survey haggles on price.”

Number 3, Churchfields was built in 1997 as a home for the O'Brien family when they moved from their equine training facility Ballydoyle.

On a 0.6 acre site, it is the biggest of 20 houses that overlook the golf course.

It was bought in 2017 for €2.3million and given a major overhaul by new owners.

As part of the sale, the new owner will get two memberships to the golf course.

The K Club is, of course, famous as host of the 2006 Ryder Cup, and No. 3 enjoys views across the lake to the fairways.
