Inside the luxurious doomsday bunker that could soon land in Ireland that 'can survive every threat'

Ireland has been earmarked as a location for a luxury, underground bunker that would accommodate hundreds of people in the event of a catastrophe.

Global doomsday shelter network Vivos said it’s been “scouting” sites around Ireland with a view to constructing a complex that could house up to 500 people.

The California-based company said enquiries worldwide from those looking to move underground into either communal or private boltholes have soared by 2,000 per cent since the onset of the pandemic, whilst business has increased by 500 per cent over the past year.

And now expansion into Ireland is very much on the radar, as Vivos eyes up suitable sites across the country to construct a vast complex that would be equipped with everything to make life as normal as possible in a post-apocalyptic world, including a hospital, a classroom, its own water supply and hydroponic gardens producing fresh food.

Vivos founder Robert Vicino launched the sprawling Vivos xPoint project more than a decade ago in South Dakota in the US. The massive facility is a former US army depot, which has more than 500 off-grid bunkers capable of accommodating around 5,000 people.

Vivos, billed as ‘the world’s largest bunker survival community’, also has smaller facilities in Indiana in the US, and in Germany, with prices ranging from €35,000 to €3m, depending on the spec.

And speaking of his plans for Ireland, he said: “We have been scouting the country in many ways, including aerial photography, known sites that I cannot disclose, and offers.

“We would only construct a bunker for 100 or more people, possibly 500. The cost will be significant for a real fortified Vivos complex to survive virtually every threat.”

According to Vicino, the blast-proof bunkers can sustain life for at least a year, with deep underground wells providing fresh water, filters purifying the air, and even facilities to grow fresh food.

The post-Armageddon good life is further complemented by luxury dining areas, bakeries, gyms, theatres and even a jail, if needed.

He added: “There’s plenty of redundancy. We have two ovens, two stoves, two microwaves, two of everything. If one fails you’ve got a back-up. It’s very posh inside. I’d say four-star level."
