Inside the Irish castle used for The Last Duel filming with Matt Damon and Jodie Comer

Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jodie Comer and Adam Driver have headed to Ireland for their latest film.

The Last Duel is due to come out in 2021, and is currently being filmed at Cahir Castle in Tipperay, Ireland.

Directed by Ridley Scott, the period drama tells the tale of King Charles VI declaring that Knight Jean de Carrouges settle his dispute with his squire by challenging him to a duel.

The screenplay was written by Matt and Ben with Nicole Holofcener.

The cast and crew have been spotted filming on location for the upcoming release, with the historic Cahir Castle providing the ideal backdrop.

Dating back to the 13th century, Cahir Castle is one of the largest castles in Ireland, and has been declared an Irish Heritage site as it's been preserved so well.

Built as a stronghold for the Butler family on a rocky island on the River Suir, at one point in its history the site was believed to be impregnable.

Nowadays it's a popular tourist attraction thanks to its impressive towers, stone walls and beautiful surroundings.

Visitors can wander around the castle grounds, or head inside the towers to explore the exhibits offering a glimpse of its rich history.

Some spots are particularly popular with guests - such as the impressive preserved dungeons which can be reached down a spiral staircase.

The Last Duel won't be the first production to have been filmed here - the castle has also served as a backdrop to hits including Excalibur and The Tudors.

You can find out more about the castle and its history on the Heritage Ireland website.

If you're considering a trip to the picturesque region, the good news is that there are plenty of budget-friendly hotels in the area. TripAdvisor has a handy round-up of cheap Cahir hotels with prices from £54 a night.
