Inside the house that's been empty for over 12 years that still has furniture inside and plants coming through the windows

Ever passed a house on a regular basis and wondered what was going on inside?

Well, with this period property on a leafy street in Chepstow, it's been nothing for at least the past 12 years - apart from some damp and some plants deciding to get in through the bathroom window and set up home inside as sitting tenants.

This former family home called Overdale is on the market for the first time in its history and it's an abandoned property with huge potential.

From the outside, the home's facade is sinking under the weight of climbing foliage and inside there remains a collection of items from former occupants.

But don't be fooled by its current condition, this house is a gem of a property with oodles of potential, providing an exciting opportunity for the next owner to put their own stamp on it.

As well as a renovation project and a programme of interior design updates, surely a new owner will want to extend the house into the vast rear garden hiding under the overgrown shrubs?

Dominic Little from estate agent KJT Residential in Cinderford says: " It's been owned by the same family since it was built in 1934.

"After the parents passed away the son lived in it for a few years and then moved away, we think it's been empty for about 12 years."

Known locally as the house with the bus in the driveway, the property was indeed home for many years for a rusting vintage bus that had long since stopped picking up any passengers.

That vintage vehicle has gone but in the garage there is another one peeping out to surprise any visitor.

Most garages hide garden tools, machinery, outdoor seating and general junk but this one is hiding a vintage MG sports car.

And seeing the 'for sale' sign going up in the garden has certainly created a local buzz around the property.

Dominic says he's been stopped and asked by local residents and passers-by about the sudden activity at the house that has been empty for so long.

He says: " I've been at the property for eight hours a day, three days in a row doing viewings and the house is definitely well known in the area, I've had a lot of local interest while onsite.

"Everyone who passes knows it's been empty for years and want to know what's going on with it, and if you mention it locally as the house with the bus, everyone seems to know it."

Finding the front door is worth it (Dominic Hill, KJT Residential, Cinderford)

If you can find the front door at the end of the front veranda, it is worth it.

The door leads to a total renovation project but it is a house full of character, features and the chance to add value as well as square footage.

The garden extends to about half an acre, which is such a surprise bonus at a suburban house, and here is where Dominic thinks the property can offer the most potential to the new owner.

Dominic says: "We would advise the new owners to extend it.

"The garden is certainly big enough and the neighbours in the row of houses on the road have extended, so the precedent has been set, but subject to planning permission of course."

The hall has some noticeable original features (Dominic Hill, KJT Residential, Cinderford)
One of the loveliest features is this stained glass window (Dominic Hill, KJT Residential, Cinderford)

Step into the hall and the once grand house can still tease you with glimpses of original features such as partial tiled flooring and even a surviving and pretty stained glass window.

Look past the former occupants' belongings in the main reception room at the front of the house and you'll see a large bay window and, even with foliage knocking at the glass, there is light streaming in through the leaves.

This generous room, that still boasts its 1930's fireplace and maybe parquet flooring too, once renovated will be a stunning space with light cascading in and the stained glass feature windows one of the main refurbished attractions.

The second reception room to the side of the hall also has views over the front garden and can also claim to offer character via a fireplace and original picture rails and skirting.

The kitchen with a pantry is found at the back of the house, behind the lounge, and upstairs are three bedrooms and the bathroom that has that invading foliage tickling the toilet and also trying to take a bath.

Look past the greenery, and surely the original metro wall tiles are worth trying to salvage, at least as many as possible?

With all the space outside begging to be utilised and with planning consent in place, this house could maybe become a substantial four to five bedroom house.

And how about adding an impressive kitchen diner extension at the rear featuring a bank of bi-fold doors opening out into that vast garden to create a family 'hub of the home'?

With a garden that size, it might even be tempting to build a swimming pool as the icing on this property renovation cake, baked to perfection as a gorgeous dream home.

And what of the stuff that still resides within the house?

Dominic says: " It's likely the vendor will be picking up most of the personal items, but the car in the garage - well it may or may not still be there when the new owner moves in.

"The vendor would like to move it, to get it off-site, and is planning on moving it but he's not sure if it can be moved."

The house has just gone under offer with KJT Residential for an asking price of around £300,000.

The new owner won't be inheriting the vintage bus, they might well find the vintage car is one tenant that is still living at the home; or maybe not.
