Inside the hidden Gateshead cafe with roof terrace overlooking the Tyne

Take a look inside one of Gateshead favourite spots that boasts views over the River Tyne, making it perfect for a sunset meal.

Known as one of the area's ultimate hidden gems, Cafe under the Spire is a real delight for all of the senses inside the renovated St. Cuthbert’s Church on Bensham bank.

Its cosy and quirky interior is like no other in the North East with each small room covered in tapestry and handmade mirrors with the most transfixing lights.

During the day the cafe is the perfect backdrop for a coffee and lunch or cake. Its spaces are perfect for catching up with friends or relaxing in a bit of solitude.

On an evening, the venue transforms into a traditional Indian restaurant, fully-licensed, serving up authentic Bangladeshi cuisine with recipes passed down through generations.

Hit hard during lockdown, they opened their kitchens to offer takeaway services but now have been able to reopen after the latest restrictions were eased.

The cafe has recently expanded seating onto their roof terrace for you to enjoy your meal with views of the sunset over the River Tyne.

The close-knit team is renowned for always giving the warmest of welcomes and has plans to expand into the other spaces inside the church in the future.
