Inside the Grade II listed Italian Romanesque style chapel about to go under the hammer

A unique opportunity has come up to own a Grade II listed Italian Romanesque style chapel in the middle of a city suburb.

Dinas Noddfa Chapel is set to go under the hammer at auction in Cardiff on July 11, and there has been interest in snapping up the old chapel already, according to auctioneers.

There's a guide price which has been set on the auction of £150,000 plus fees.

The Grade II listed Italian Romanesque style chapel, which has been closed since 2007, is arranged over two floors on a large site and is located at Dinas Street in Plasmarl, Swansea .

Planning had been granted in 2013 for it to be converted from a chapel to 15 flats and two maisonettes, and retaining walls within the curtilage of the site to form parking area.

But be aware, there is evidence of Japanese Knotweed to the rear of the plot.

Dave Jones, director of Auction House which is putting the chapel up for auction, said: "There has been a reasonable amount of interest already but it is very early days.

"Chapels tend to generate a fair bit of interest, and there is great development potential with this one. Planning permission was granted in 2013 for its conversion from a chapel into 15 flats and two maisonettes, and that will be the most likely use.

"You want to see these grand old buildings be developed and hopefully this one will get sold at auction."

Councillor Beverley Hopkins said: "I would like to see someone using it, nobody likes to see buildings going to disrepair, but it depends what the new owners want to do with it.

"To be honest, it needs a bit of TLC. At the end of the day, it's sad to see buildings going into disrepair.

"It has been empty a long time, it's a shame, it was once a lovely building."

Back in January this year, Brynhyfryd Chapel on Bryn Terrace also went up for sale at auction , and sold for £90,000.

The listing for the chapel can be found at the Auction House South Wales website .
