For sale: The 220-year-old church in Worsley on the market as a 'unique investment opportunity'

A former church has gone up for sale in the heart of Worsley village.

The building, believed to date back to 1801, will have a guide price of £375,000 when it eventually goes to auction.

The Barton Road church features a main hall, four separate rooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen.

Described as a “unique investment opportunity”, estate agents say the building could be turned into flats, a food hall or a restaurant.

The Methodist church, which does not have a graveyard, closed in 2011.

It still features an original pipe organ and church pews.

It was reduced in price on January 5 and estate agents say they are expecting “lots of new enquiries”.

Chris Robinson, director of Hills Residential, the company marketing the property, said: “We’ve had ideas from people wanting to turn it into flats, a food hall and a restaurant.

“The price has been reduced so we are anticipating it getting lots of new enquiries.

“There is the main part of the church, the church hall.

“Then there is an office, two sets of toilets and further rooms downstairs.

“Upstairs there is gallery and a large office or storage room.”

Its listing on Rightmove reads: “Located in a desirable position in the heart of Worsley village.

“This former church represents a unique investment opportunity and is certain to be popular. Must be viewed to be fully appreciated.”
