Joe Brolly

Joe Brolly was born in Dungiven, Londonderry, on June 25, 1969.

His mother, Anne, is an Irish Aontu and former Sinn Fein Councillor who served on Limavady Borough Council, while his father, Francie, was a renowned Irish musician, teacher, and Republican politician.

Francie played Gaelic football for Derry in the 1960s and later served as Sinn Fein councillor and MLA.

In 2003, the musician was first elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly and was re-elected in 2007 as a Sinn Fein member of the East Londonderry constituency.

Joe attended Saint Patrick's Grammar School, where he played basketball for Ireland.

He went on to study law at Trinity College Dublin before taking a postgraduate course at Queen's University Belfast.

Former Derry All-Ireland winner and Independent columnist and barrister later took up a role on RTE's Sunday Game as an outspoken pundit but hasn't appeared on the programme since the 2019 All Ireland final.

Who is Laurita Blewitt?

Laurita Blewitt is a well-known broadcaster, and from 2006 to 2007, she served as a sports reporter for The Mayo News.

She went on to take up a role as producer on i102-104FM's The Tommy and Hector Show and Breakfast with Bernard and Keith from 2007 until 2011.

Laurita now co-hosts a hugely successful podcast with Tommy Tiernan and Hector O hEochagain, with the hilarious show becoming the most successful in Ireland with over 10 million downloads across the globe.

Another claim to fame the broadcaster has is that she is a third cousin of American President Joe Biden and has met him on numerous occasions.

Both she and barrister Joe, 53, were present for the St Patrick's Day celebrations with the Taoiseach in the White House this year.

The President is also expected to send them a good luck message after he and Brolly struck up a great personal relationship and are said to be regularly in contact.

How did the happy couple meet?

Joe Brolly and Laurita Blewitt got engaged last year after dating for quite a long time. However, the pair have not revealed where or how they first met.

After many years together, the couple decided to wed after getting engaged in 2021.

It is Joe's second marriage as he split from his first wife, Emma several years ago.

The pair share five children together. However, little is known about them as Joe strives to keep much of his family life private.

A pal of Brolly commented before the nuptials: "He and Laurita are a great couple and very happy together. They are getting married in her native Mayo , and it should be a great weekend. All their close friends in the GAA and showbiz world are going.

"Joe is one of the best, a very decent and clever guy who always calls a spade a spade whether it is in the courtroom, on the sports pitch or the political arena."
