Inside the enormous new street food and live music venue at Piccadilly

The next phase of Manchester's enormous new street food and live music venue has launched this weekend.

Escape to Freight Island's outdoor area - known as Platform 15 - was the hottest ticket in town this summer, a purpose-built socially-distanced venue with street food traders and live entertainment.

With the winter drawing in though, the project has expanded and headed inside to the huge warehouse building at Depot Mayfield.

The site was previously part of Manchester Pride Live and the Warehouse Project last year, as well as hosting some Manchester International Festival events.

Known as the Ticket Hall, the move will double the venue's capacity to 1,000 people.

A new bike cloakroom will also be added in partnership with cyclewear brand Rapha to encourage sustainable transport to and from the venue.

There'll be a raft of new names joining the existing list of food and drink traders, too, from local breweries and cocktail bars to Vietnamese street food and a new vegan operation.

The industrial space has been filled with split-level, socially-distanced seating areas, illuminated in red lighting and giant modern chandeliers.

Behind the main bank of seating will be a curling rink - Manchester's first - that is due to open in the coming weeks.

Almost touching the arched brick ceiling will be a new cocktail bar outpost for Ancoats bar The Jane Eyre, which will have a view across the whole venue.

Other newcomers to the site include Plant Grill, a new vegan kitchen from Firebird Hope's Dan Hope; Belzan Pasta Kitchen; Patty Queen with burgers; and Northenden's Vietnamese gem Mi & Pho.

Bottles of wine jut out directly from the brickwork at independent wine shop Forever Changes, while Pomona Island Brew Co are launching their very own taproom.

Existing traders Madre, Krum Doughnuts, Baratxuri, Camden Beer and Voodoo Rays Pizza have also all shifted inside, ready for the outdoor area to transform into Winter Island.

Winter Island, which launches mid-November, will have a heavy festive twist including mulled drinks, a hog roast, a sausage grill, and stalls dedicated to cheese and chocolate.

The Ticket Hall has once again been built with social distancing in mind, with tables placed far apart and full table service on food and drinks.

The entertainment programme will include headline DJ sets from Hot Chip, Rhys from The Horrors, and Huey Morgan, as well as festival collaborations with the likes of We Out Here and Festival No. 6.
