Inside the 'emotional' Celtic dugout during nerve-shredding end to Rangers clash

Jonny Hayes took in the final stages of Celtic 's win over Rangers from the dugout but there was no shelter from the unbearable derby tension.

James Forrest struck the winner for Neil Lennon 's side with four minutes left on the clock but they survived an almighty scare as only a last-ditch Kristoffer Ajer tackle denied Rangers an equaliser.

Hayes was joined on the sidelines by the injured Kieran Tierney and they watched on together as yet another dramatic derby went right down to the wire.

And there were points where neither man could bear to look at what was unfolding before them.

Speaking to the Celtic View , Hayes joked he and Tierney would have parted with a huge sum of money had it brought the final whistle immediately after Forrest's goal.

He said: "What a result. Games like that get emotional and I’m disappointed that we didn’t kick on and get two or three. We let them back into the game but that resilience and winning mentality came into play again.

Kieran Tierney's staggering Celtic stats show he could do with a rest

“Kieran and I were both sitting next to each other watching from the sidelines and we couldn’t watch at times because of all the emotions in the game. As soon as we scored the second goal we were just waiting for the final whistle.

“Kieran and I had this joke about how much we’d pay for the final whistle right then, even though we could have scored another couple after the second. The win was paramount, and having that 13-point lead gives us a bit more of a cushion now.”
