Inside the country home turned into drug den by 'nightmare' tenants

Enforcement officers have busted into a house which had been turned into a drug den full of faeces, foil and needles by its tenants.

Able Investigations and Enforcements, based in Bristol, entered the property in a village just outside of Bristol at 10.30am today (September 10).

They had been hired by the homeowners to evict the residents, a man and woman, who had refused to leave and stopped paying rent.

Although their tenancy began normally, the landlords - a married couple who live next door - say the couple started using drugs again and their addiction spiralling out of control.

It is alleged the couple were selling drugs from the house, as well as turning it into a brothel.

The behaviour of the couple had got so bad it had become a “living nightmare” for the landlords and other living nearby as they continued to get visitors throughout the night and early hours of the morning.

The man was also said to be prowling the streets and often looking through people’s windows.

Although they had two dogs, they would often leave them unattended for days on end, worrying neighbours.

“It’s less the money, and more the worry and fear of what was going on in that house and who was turning up all hours of the night,” said the wife.

“This has been going on for months and we’ve had so many sleepless nights and just felt like enough was enough,” she added.

In that time, her husband said they had become extremely familiar with all sorts of law enforcement and agencies including adult social services, the police and RSPCA.

Steve Wood, Operational Manager at Able Enforcements was on the scene with two of his men AJ and Ben who are highly trained officers dealing with all types of evictions on a daily basis across the UK.

They were accompanied by a County Court Judge who brought the official document giving them permission to enter the house and begin evict those inside.

However, once inside it became obvious they had already left, having been warned of the eviction day, leaving behind piles of junk and rubbish, including a pair of soiled jogging bottoms.

A number of mobile phones were seized and a camera which may have been used in the supply of illegal drugs.

Items believed to have been used as weapons, such as a number of kitchen knives and a hammer which were found by the door, were also taken.

As were multi-packs of Quavers, which the landlords claimed the couple were using to transport the drugs.

Used needles, heroin substitution medication, foil, burnt lighters and a condom were among the paraphernalia found strewn around the rooms.

A strong smell of faeces and urine emanated from the living rooms where the dogs were reportedly kept for days on end.

Avon and Somerset police were told about the items left in the house.

Mr Wood said: “The eviction process is an extremely lengthy one. I just wish judges could see the state of the houses we come to once we get inside.

“The landlords here a husband and wife have lost £6,000 in rent arrears and it’ll take about £10,000 to do the place up again to a livable standard.”

The wife said: “What you see here is the unfortunate result of drugs.”
