Inside the big new B&M store that's opened in Liverpool city centre

A new B&M store opened in Liverpool city centre last weekend but it might still be a few weeks before some people visit.

The retailer has moved into the space previously occupied by Clas Ohlson in Clayton Square, which closed back in 2019.

Because B&M sells items classed as 'essential shopping', such as food and medicine, the retailer is allowed to keep stores open during this latest national lockdown.

But the lockdown means fewer people than usual are currently heading into town, with the 'stay at home' rule still in place. Therefore it's likely to be a few more weeks until some shoppers are able to make the journey into the city centre, and visit the new B&M store.

Shops classed as 'non-essential', such as Primark, Next and John Lewis, are provisionally due to open on April 12 as part of Boris Johnson's roadmap out of lockdown.

If you're unlikely to visit the city centre B&M store until then, these pictures show what you will find inside. The store has a large mix of food and drink, toys, DIY and garden items, homeware, pet food and baby essentials. There's also 'manager's specials' and seasonal items, which currently includes a large range of picnic items.

The shop was opened at 8am last Saturday by representatives of Nugent Foodbank, who run a weekly food market and hamper delivery service for people in need. The volunteers were presented with £250 B&M vouchers to help towards the charity.

B&M Clayton Square store manager, Stephen Calvert, said: "It was really exciting to welcome customers through the doors at the weekend, the feedback so far has been fantastic.

"A big thank you to the team at Nugent Foodbank who helped us open the store on Saturday, we hope that our donation can help them to continue to do the great work they do in supporting the local people."
