Inside the best toilet at the Glastonbury Festival

The best toilet on the whole of the Glastonbury Festival site has been revealed - and it doubles up as an art gallery.

But ‘The Loovre’ - which is located between the Cider Bus and the Pyramid Stage, for those who are reading this on site and in a bit of a hurry - is actually carrying a powerful message in its luxurious lavatorial environment.

Worthy Farm has 200,000 inhabitants for up to a week, all living in a small, densely packed city with the kind of toilet facilities that no one there is particularly used to or fond of.

But one in four people in the world don’t have access to a toilet that’s even as good as the worst one at Glastonbury at all - in fact, more people on Planet Earth have a mobile phone than have a toilet.

So water and sanitation charity WaterAid, which is one of the three main charitable beneficiaries of the festival, has set up The Loovre, a luxury toilet with photos and paintings inside to tell the story of the world’s loo inequality.

“We're really excited to launch The Loovre at Glastonbury Festival this year,” said Tim Wainwright, WaterAid’s chief executive.

“This fun exhibition provides some entertainment and contemplation while using the convenience, as well as conveying a serious message: no one should have their access denied to decent sanitation and clean water because of who they are or where they live.

“One in four people – that's two billion people across the globe – have nowhere safe or decent to go to the toilet.

“We are calling to join us as we fight this inequality and work towards a world where everyone everywhere has access to these basic human rights,” he added.
