Inside the abandoned Leeds Girls' High School site being transformed into £20 million housing estate

Photos have been released which reveal the state of a former Leeds Girls' High School building in Headingley which has been left abandoned for years.

The derelict old mansion house that borders Headingley Lane originally formed one of the junior sections of the girls' school for decades.

However, the school upped sticks in 2008 following a merger with the boys' grammar school, which is now known as The Grammar School at Leeds in Alwoodley.

It means that the building on Headingley Lane has not been occupied for years, leaving it in a state of disrepair.

But alongside the peeling walls, smashed windows and boarded up windows are some incredible features that remain from its rich and illustrious heritage.

The gallery of photos below show the grand spiral staircase, ornate columns and high ceilings.

The building currently sits on the £20 million Victoria Gardens site, which is being developed into 101 houses and apartments by Stonebridge Homes.

Before the area was redeveloped, the building was used as a filming location for the fictional St Matthews' Hospital in 2010 by ITV for the medical drama Monroe, which aired in 2011.
