Inside Taylor Swift's secret Irish visits - Christmas in a castle, GAA fun and remote beach trip

Irish Taylor Swift fans are going wild with excitement since their idol announced she’d be playing two concerts in Dublin next summer for her Eras Tour - but it won’t be the US singer’s first trip to Irish shores

Taylor has long been a fan of Ireland and was once spotted on a remote Irish beach in Donegal.

Back in 2018 the singing sensation posted about her trip on Instagram, accompanied by some snaps of herself on the beach.

The star wrote: "It’s been one year since we escaped the real world together and imagined ourselves someplace simpler. With tall tall trees and salt air.

“Where you’re allowed to wear lace nightgowns that make you look like a Victorian ghost every day & no one will side eye you cause no one is around.

“It’s just you and your imaginary cabin and the stories you make up to pass the time.

"To say thank you for all you have done to make this album what it was, I wanted to give you the original version of The Lakes.

Fans went into a frenzy as they realised the black and white snaps had been taken at Portsalon, Co. Donegal (also known as Ballymastocker Bay).

Taylor also spent a Christmas at Glin Castle in Co. Limerick, owned by Catherine Fitzgerald and her husband actor Dominic West.

It was finally confirmed that the star stayed there after news broke that she was in the area.

Fans had recognised the surroundings, after Taylor’s then boyfriend, actor Joe Alwyn had posted a picture to his Instagram account, showing Glin’s famous Knight’s Walk during the festive season.

At the time of the pair’s stay, no confirmation was made that they were guests at the castle, but a later post on Glin Castle’s Instagram account said: “Thinking back to two Christmases ago when we welcomed some very special guests who particularly enjoyed The Knight’s Walk.”

Taylor won the hearts of Glin village’s residents after she lent her support to a local GAA club by buying a raffle ticket from a seller, K. Lyons.

The club posted their thanks to the singer on Twitter, and showed a photo of the ticket, where Taylor gave her address as "USA".

Taylor is also a big fan of Co. Wicklow - known as the garden of Ireland.

In her hit “Sweet Nothing”, she sings: “I spy with my little tired eye, Tiny as a firefly, A pebble that we picked up last July.

“Down deep inside your pocket, We almost forgot it, Does it ever miss Wicklow sometimes?”

While in Dublin on her last visit, Taylor stayed in an Airbnb called The Coach House.

Host Bob explained in his listing: “Taylor Swift stayed with us while in Ireland. The location of her stay was kept confidential and nobody ever found out allowing her some peace and quiet while in Dublin.”
