Female inmates at a jail in Russia have been filmed strutting down a catwalk as part of a prison beauty pageant.
With a free makeover on offer to the winner, prisoners at Penal Colony No. 6, in Sverdlovsk Oblast, took part in the contest which included a fashion show, catwalk presentation and personal descriptions of each contestant.
In the footage, several inmates are seen modelling fetching pink, red and blue outfits on a catwalk as music blares and the excited audience cheers.
One mean-looking convict in a burgundy dress blows the crowd a threatening kiss before glumly stomping from one side of the stage to the other.
At the end of the clip, after the contestants file out in a long line, a sash and a crown are placed on a stunned prisoner in a blue dress.
Alexander Levchenko, spokesman for the Federal Penitentiary Service in Sverdlovsk, said the activity was useful for the women’s rehabilitation.
“Everyone needs to be creatively occupied," he said.
It is believed many of the prisoners carry out work for the clothing industry, producing sportswear, formal attire and overalls for oil rig workers.
According to reports, the inmates used their sewing skills to produce many of the gowns used in their pageant.
It was also said that winners and runners-up received vouchers for a free beauty makeover as well as confectionery prizes of different sorts.
