Inside Rihanna's Super Bowl - pregnancy, 'boss move' and how much she really got paid

Rihanna sent fans into a frenzy with her hotly anticipated halftime performance at Sunday's Super Bowl, with many branding her "the ultimate girl boss".

The 34-year-old singer put on an incredible show during the huge showdown between Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs at the State Farm Stadium - and even revealed she is expecting baby number two while on stage.

During the halftime performance, Rihanna was the centre of attention as she was lowered from a floating platform wearing an eye-catching red ensemble.

The We Found Love hitmaker left her jacket open to show off her blossoming baby bump. She seemed to cradle the bump during her performance, sending fans absolutely wild.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: "Forgot how many bangers Rihanna had!! Her vocals are and she’s pregnant! Ledge."

Another wrote: "Ok so Rihanna is in fact pregnant. OMG she was literally mothering," while a third commented: "Now that was the ultimate girl boss move - love Rihanna."

Rihanna's pregnancy news was confirmed to The Mirror by her representatives shortly after her performance.

Despite revealing her pregnancy at the Super Bowl, the superstar had actually dropped some massive hints last week that she is expecting her second baby.

While doing promos for the Super Bowl, Rihanna was asked whether there would be any surprises during her halftime performance.

She said "it wouldn't be a surprise" if she answered before adding: "I'm thinking about bringing someone. I'm not sure. We'll see."

The star's Super Bowl performance brought in a star-studded crowd, with the likes of Adele, Jay-Z, Billie Eilish and Cara Delevingne in attendance.

Cara, 30, even showed she is a Rihanna super fan as she wore a Savage x Fenty T-Shirt which read: "Rihanna concert interrupted by a football game, weird but whatever."

Adele, 34, used the Super Bowl as a date night with her boyfriend Rich Paul and ended the night in comfort, slipping out of the arena and walking to her car while barefoot.

Rihanna's biggest supporter at the Super Bowl was most definitely her partner A$AP Rocky, who was spotted cheering her on in the crowd.

In an adorable post shared by the NFL on Instagram, the rapper was seen excitedly filming the show on his phone while dancing along to his girlfriend's music with a huge smile on his face.

While Rihanna's spectacular performance went down well with fans, many will be surprised by how much the star earned for the halftime show.

In fact, it's not the huge pay day people would expect.

While it may come as a surprise to some, performers at the Super Bowl halftime show don't actually get paid for their concerts.

Instead, the NFL pays for any expenses associated with putting on the performance, including travel costs - and it can come with a hefty price tag.

In 2021, The Weeknd reportedly spent $7million (£5.8million) to put on the show, as did Dr Dre the year before that.

The NFL reportedly shelled out $13million (£10.7million) to cover the cost of Jennifer Lopez and Shakira's 2020 show.

This covered the cast of staff, elaborate sets and expensive audio equipment.

Despite not getting paid for her performance, Rihanna could gain some revenue from her business ventures.

Ahead of Sunday's big game, the Savage x Fenty founder released a 17-piece Super Bowl-inspired collection, which included a T-shirt reading: "Rihanna concert interrupted by a football game, weird but whatever".

The singer promoted her makeup brand on stage (NFL Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show)

The collection ranges from $32.95 (£27.30) for a Fenty Super Bowl beanie to $112 (£93) for a Property of Fenty hoodie emblazoned with "Savage x Fenty LVII" on the back.

Rihanna even cleverly promoted her Fenty Beauty range during the halftime show as she touched up her makeup with her own products while performing All of the Lights on stage.

Commenting on her promotion, one fan tweeted: "Rihanna pulling out the Fenty to do a little make up touch up was the chef's kiss."

Another added: "There is nothing more Rihanna than Rihanna reapplying Fenty powder in the middle of her Super Bowl halftime show."

A third fan said: "First performance in seven years - pregnancy announcement, Fenty promo. Rihanna is the Queen."
