Inside Rihanna's billions - how singer went from pop star to filthy rich business mogul

Rihanna burst onto the music scene as the 16-year-old prodigy of Jay-Z ’s label - but it may come as a surprise to some as she's reached billionaire status that her cash hasn't solely come from her global music career.

The star's fortune is stashed in several pots - well huge investments and businesses to be precise - as we delve into her wealth for a snap shot of how she's now the richest musician on the planet.

Beauty

She may be the queen of pop but a bulk of her huge income is actually from her value in Fenty Beauty.

According to Forbes - the bulk of her fortune - an estimated $1.4billion - comes from the beauty business of which she owns a 50% stake.

The other half of the business is owned by French luxury goods conglomerate LVMH and credits itself on 'inclusivity' huge colour palette with around 50 shades with a focus on darker skin tones.

She also benefitted from being one of the first to offer up a beauty line so rose to success ahead of other celebrity ranges such as Kylie Jenner ’s Kylie Cosmetics, Kim Kardashian West’s KKW Beauty and Jessica Alba’s Honest Company.

Social Media

The singer has expertly interwoven her A-list singer status with her social media and her 101 million followers on Instagram alone.

Although promoting isn't anything new, back in 2017 she began channelling her beauty range and saw sales follow.

Lingerie

Barbados-born Rihanna has another billion dollar business and it carries part of the same name with lingerie company, Savage x Fenty, worth an estimated $270 million.

She owns a 30% stake in the company (according to Forbes) which was launched in 2018.

Music

Rihanna has been building her business empire and although in the past she would bash out an album each year - she's not actually released one since 2016.

So fans await news of her ninth album, having promised in an Instagram comment last year that it would be released in 2019.

Speaking of a follow up to her 2016’s ‘ANTI’ , Rihanna told Entertainment Tonight that she likes to “antagonise” her fans when it comes to album delays.

Property

As well as having a string of uber luxe pads scattered across the globe, the 'Umbrella' singer has shrewdly invested in properties to earn her extra income.

Her own homes portfolio are in Los Angeles and Barbados but her rental homes span Manhattan, the Hamptons, and London.

Four years after stepping into the music industry she splashed out $6.9 million mansion in the coveted Beverly Hills Post Office area of Los Angeles.

But in 2013, Rihanna decided to lay down roots in her native Barbados with the purchase of a $22 million beachside villa at One Sandy Lane, just down the street from the famous Sandy Lane Hotel.

And fast forward to just last year when the Diamonds singer picked up two neighbouring Beverly Hills mansions in short order. First it was a $13.8 million contemporary-style property measuring just over 7,600 square feet and featuring five bedrooms and seven bathrooms.

It remains to be seen what her plans are for these properties.
