Inside popular Nottingham city suburb that's 'convenient for everybody'

People have provided an insight into life in a city suburb that's 'convenient for everybody'.

Students and longstanding residents spoke of their fondness for the Gregory Boulevard area of Hyson Green.

They explained how it was centrally located, and praised the transport links and local shops.

They spoke to Nottinghamshire Live after fresh plans came to light for more student accommodation in the area.

Cameron Johnson, 22, who works at Tesco and lives in the city, said: “You’ve got the public transport, the tram is right next to Gregory Boulevard.

“It’s got the Asda, which is useful for students.

“It’s a diverse area so you can feel comfortable around here.”

Jacob James, 20, who studies psychology at Nottingham Trent University, and is originally from Ipswich, said the local amenities were helpful.

“For shopping and just going to the park, it’s ideal that it is close."

Tony Ellis, 52, a painter and decorator from Hyson Green, said that he had noticed a difference in the suburb.

"There’s a lot of flats going about," he said.

"There's quite a few students here and the community is all right.

“The shops are all right; they’re decent and you've got the trams as well.

“It’s just convenient for everybody because of the shops and everything."

One recent proposal has been submitted to extend a building and create dozens of student flats.

Local businesses spoke of the benefits in more students living nearby.

Neil Riley, 45, the owner of the Staddon Bed shop in Gregory Boulevard, said: “It’s a positive because students bring income into the area.

“They buy things from us, they definitely put money into the area.

“They use the takeaways, they use the trams."

But he said a lot of students seemed to have cars and that parking could be an issue.
