Early life

Born on January 31, 1971, in Dundrum village in Co Down, Kielty grew up with a natural wit and gift for storytelling.

He is one of three sons born to businessman John 'Jack' Kielty, who was shot dead on 25 January 1988 by the Ulster Freedom Fighters, a cover name used by loyalist paramilitary group the Ulster Defence Association (UDA).

Kielty as a teenager was a talented Gaelic footballer, and was a member of the Down GAA minor football team for three years, between 1987 and 1989.

He was the substitute goalkeeper for the team when they won the 1987 All Ireland Minor Football Championship.

Kielty began performing regularly while a pupil at St Patrick's Grammar School in Downpatrick.

Net Worth

Kielty has a reported net worth of $15 million (€13.8m) according to various websites, including celebritynetworth.com. Yesterday, he confirmed he will be paid €250,000 per 30 show season for hosting the Late Late Show.

In a statement, he said: "I'm pleased to finally be able to share that I've signed a three-season deal to host The Late Late Show beginning this September. I'm being paid €250,000 per 30 show season. If additional shows are requested by RTE, they'll be paid on a pro-rata basis.

"I'm also receiving a one-off payment of €20,000 to cover the pre-production and rehearsals from now to September. The contract allows me to submit flight and accommodation expenses, but I've waived this. I've made it clear to RTE that I will be covering my own flights and accommodation costs. I've also asked RTÉ to carbon offset my flights.

"I genuinely hope this helps clarify things going forward. I can't wait to get started."
