Inside Nicky Byrne's private life - growing kids, League of Ireland spell and famous family as he quits RTE role

Nicky Byrne will appear less on our screens and airwaves over the next few months, as Westlife's tour kicks into gear.

The Dubliner is no longer able to commit to his radio shows - or RTÉ's hit Dancing with the Stars.

On social media, Nicky explained he was gutted to be leaving his role as host of the competition.

He said: "A little news from me: sadly I will be stepping away from hosting Dancing with the Stars on RTE.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this show full of glitz and glamour and, of course, being a part of everyone’s Sunday night winter TV viewing. It’s been a brilliant five seasons since we launched in 2017, working with the best crew in the world.

"I have smiled and laughed my way through those 59 shows to date, and what a journey it’s been. I take away the greatest memories.

He also thanked his family for their support - and they've really stuck by him as his career rocketed upwards.

Growing family with childhood sweetheart on 'millionaire's row'

Nicky met Georgina Ahern long before stardom arrived at his door.

The pair began dating when they were just 15 years old, and they tied the knot in 2003 before celebrating at the church of St Peter and St Paul in the pretty village of Gallardonin.

In April 2007, the pair became parents for the first time as Georgina gave birth to twin sons, Jay and Rocco.

The couple then welcomed their third child, daughter Gia, in October 2013 after snapping up a home on Dublin's 'millionaire's row' - Abington.

Talented siblings

Nicky is not the only famous face in his family, with his younger brother and sister-in-law achieving massive success too.

He previously told RSVP Magazine about working with his brother Adam, who has worked on different RTE shows as a producer since 2015.

He started his career in television in 2011, working as a researcher and production assistant on programmes such as Celebrity Bainisteoir, The Voice of Ireland and Last Orders.

Since then, he has been credited as a producer on Ireland's Fittest Family and Dancing with the Stars .

Nicky also has a close relationship with his sister-in-law Cecilia Ahern, the talented author behind novels such as PS, I Love You; Where Rainbows End; and If You Could See Me Now.

Football skills

Anyone who has ever tuned in to Soccer Aid will have seen Nicky between the sticks for the Rest of the World squad.

He was an extremely talented goalkeeper growing up, representing Ireland at three underage levels having played for Home Farm and St Kevin's Boys over here.

He secured a move to Leeds United before hitting superstardom with Westlife, winning the FA Youth Cup.

He had spells at Shelbourne and Cobh Ramblers in the League of Ireland, but jacked it in to go on to his multi-million earning singing career.
